Azulfidine is medicine for treating ulcerative colitis. It helps to increase time between colitis attacks.
Inform your doctor if you have:
• an allergic reaction to Azulfidine
• asthma
• G6PD deficiency
• intestinal obstruction
• blood disorders
• kidney disease
• breast-feeding
• porphyria
• liver disease
• urinary tract obstruction
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
You should take this tablet with water. You should keep regular intervals between doses. Do not stop taking Azulfidine suddenly because side effects are possible. Consult with your doctor first.
Do not overtake this pill. If you think that you have taken too much, call emergency room at once. If you are going to use it on children, consult with your doctor first. Do not give this medicine to anybody else.
If you forget your regular dose, try to take it as soon as possible. But do not double doses and do not take extra doses.
Digoxin or folic acid can interact with Azulfidine.

Provide your doctor with information if you use illegal drugs, drink alcohol or smoke. It will help your doctor to check if it can interact with Azulfidine. Tell your doctor about all nutritional supplements, non-prescription drugs and dietary supplements. Consult with your doctor if you are going to stop or to start taking these pills.
You can get more sensitive to the sun during time when you take Azulfidine. Try to avoid direct sunlight or use protective closes. Additionally drink a lot of water.
Visit your health adviser regularly for progress checks. Possible you will have to make checks on blood and urine.
Possible side effects which require medical care:
• unusually tired
• allergic reactions
• severe stomach pain
• painful urination
• fever
• redness or loosening of the skin
• unusual bleeding
• yellowing of the eyes
Possible side effects which do not require medical care:
• orange color to the urine
• headache
• loss of appetite
• reduced sperm count
• nausea
Keep your children out of the reach of this medicine. Keep Azulfidine between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) tightly closed. Do not use it after the expiration date.
